GENERAL RULES
REGISTERING CARS
Car owner must register their car numbers with the track office. Car numbers registered the previous year will be held for two (2) weeks only after the new racing season has begun. After two (2) weeks, anyone may register that number. You must register no later than the first night you race. You must show a social security card or a valid driver's license before you will receive any winnings. Persons registering a car at the beginning of a new racing season must keep the same number for the entire season. Car numbers cannot be transferred to another person because the number must remain with the original registration at the beginning of the season. For end of the year purposes, there will be no exceptions. One car and one driver constitute an entry. Car number stays with the original driver. Car numbers cannot be changed during a racing night. Cars that appear for a race meet and have not registered, and should their number be a duplicate, they will be assigned a number and changed to same for reason of scoring points. Registration is $25.00 for each car. Points will be awarded to driver not car.
PIT PERMITS
Pit passes are $25.00 per person and $25.00 per car each night, except special events. Pit permits must be worn and visible at all times. Anyone found guilty of letting an unauthorized person (not signed in on insurance sheet) use their permit will be dealt with severely. All drivers must be at least eighteen (18) year of age, under (18) years of age must have signed consent of parents or legal guardian.
PROCEDURES
1. Persons who enter the PIT AREA, do so at their own risk. The management is not responsible for accidents of any nature, or damages incurred, or for loss by theft, while on the premises of RGS
2. Track officials reserve the right to refuse entrance to any car, driver, owner or any other person to the PIT AREA, or grandstands.
3. Refusal of any owner, driver or pitman to abide by the set rules and the usual policy conducting auto races will be grounds for the management and/or technical committee to refuse to let such persons or car take part in the race program and/or penalties as they see fit.
4. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR INTOXICANTS OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED OR CONSUMED IN THE PIT AREA UNTIL THE RACING PROGRAM IS COMPLETE. Anyone causing bodily harm to any officer or official at Rio Grande Speedway will be subject to disciplinary action and or prosecution.
6. Any disorderly conduct, including fighting, abusive language, or unusual behavior, will result in disciplinary action.
7. No firearms are allowed within the confines of Rio Grande Speedway.
8. Owners will be responsible for the conduct of their pit crew and drivers. Any member, driver, owner, or pit crew-man of any car who deliberately obstructs any race will be subject to disciplinary action.
9. The patrolmen on duty are given the right by management to enforce the rules and regulations of Rio Grande Speedway, as well as County, State and Federal Laws.
10. Any unauthorized participant entering judges stand, announcer's booth, or flagman's stand will be subject to disciplinary action.
11. The management reserves the right to change the race program or clarify rules at any time for the improvement of racing, safety or clarification.
12. After the checkered flag is dropped for the final event of the night, anyone going onto the track in or on any vehicle, or moving any race cars other than to load on trailers, will be subject to disciplinary action, unless given permission by authorized official.
13. The race will be red flagged if car stalls or wrecks and is blocking the front straight-a- way, or entering turns 3 and 4 for the safety of spectators.
14. The flagman has the authority to start any event whether all cars called to the track are ready or not. Any car that does not take its position when called will start in the rear.
15. No trial runs unless track is open for same. Any one caught racing on the track when it is closed will be subject to disciplinary action.
16. Each car must be able to start under its own power on entering the pits each night.
17. All cars will be inspected on entering the gate for compliance with the rules. At the discretion of the pit steward or track director, any car can be disqualified for the rules, appearance or safety.
18. RESTART: NO passing on restarts until you pass the orange cone in turn four. Passing is defined as your front bumper passing the next cars rear bumper. Any car jumping the start will be started tailback zero tolerance.
19. Any driver that changes cars will start on the back and will not receive points if he raced another car in the heat. The driver must notify the pit steward or car and driver will be disqualified. You cannot change cars once the green flag drops for your event.
20. Any event that is 75% complete and is stopped will be considered a race, Anyone leaving the track at any time for any reason will restart in the back. Cars do not race back to the Yellow flag. Car causing two (2) yellows in the same event will be disqualified for that event.
21. Different rules and rule changes may govern special events.
22. The judge and starter's decision is final in all classes.
23. Numbers should be large and legible on both sides, on top and rear panels. Numbers must be brightly done in colors that contrast with the car. Letters on sides of car should be in contrasting color from body, be at least 4 inches thick and at least 20 inches high. Top numbers should be at least 4 inches thick and 27. inches high. If numbers are not readable Rio Grande Speedway reserves the right to refuse to allow any car on the racetrack.
24. Rio Grande Speedway expects everyone to use good judgment and common sense.
25. Any driver complaining to track owner, manager, or officials may be subject to disciplinary action. Complaint CAN ONLY be in writing and signed with their number and turned in to a track official, AFTER the COMPLETION of the ENTIRE Race Program.
26. ANY car not on the track by 7:00 p.m. or when called for the purpose of packing the track, will be subject to disciplinary action. Racetrack MUST be rolled in by all cars called onto track by a COMPETENT driver.
27.Only people that have limited mobility are authorized to have a recreational vehicle for means of transportation. Nobody else is allowed to ride recreational vehicles in the pits, accept when announced for special events. Failure to ride any pit vehicle responsibly will be grounds for disciplinary action.
28. Hot laps will be run by class only. 6 to 8 cars on the track at one time. 5 laps only. If you are not ready to hot lap with your class, you missed hot laps.
POINTS SYSTEM & LINE-UPS
Points are given in Heats and Mains. The heat are lined up by points average and the main are how you finish your heats.
SAFETY RULES
1. All cars must pass technical inspection before being allowed on the track.
2. No car will be allowed on the track unless an ambulance and track official are present.
3. Only driver will be allowed in car while on track. No kids or passengers.
4. Track official will have the right to say who will be allowed to race and who will not be allowed to race. (Someone drinking or drunk, someone sick, someone causing trouble, or someone who has been disqualified, etc.).
5. All drivers while on the track at any time will be required to wear a helmet designed with full coverage and designed for auto racing (Snell SA95 or SA2000), while the vehicle is in motion. Also, they must use an approved three (3) inch wide safety belt, and two (2) inch wide shoulder harness with a quick release buckle. No chest or breast belts will be allowed. Seat belts must be in good condition and no older then 3 years old.
6. Roll-Bars: Steel roll-over bars are compulsory and must be approved by the track officials. Aluminum and other soft metals will not be permitted. Front and rear roll-bars must be connected at the top (cage type) and attached to the frame. Side bars or the roll-bars run diagonally from top of cage to frame of car. Tubing must be 1 1/2 minimum O.D. and .090 minimum wall thickness.
7. All cars must be equipped with a fully charge and correct classification fire extinguisher. Quick release mandatory. Must be within easy reach of driver.
8. No burning lights on cars on the track. Gauge lights only.
9. No radiators are allowed in the driver's compartment. No rear radiators are allowed.
10. Fire suits and racing type seats are recommended in all classes.
11. Carburetors must be equipped with two (2) return springs, one mounted to the front and one mounted to the rear.
12. All drivers must stay inside their car while on the track, as long as the car is on its wheels and not on fire, until the red flag comes out.
13. All cars must have some type of screen in front of driver (windshield area).
14. Battery: Must be securely mounted. No battery allowed in the driver's compartment.
15. Any car may be disqualified for the following reasons for that race: If any body panels or bumper comes off or loose where it may endanger any person or property. Has a flat tire on the right side or looses a wheel, except on the last 2 laps of race. Enters pit area during a race. Catches on fire. Drives across infield. Driving in an unsportsmanlike like or unsafe manner.
16. Gas tank must be securely mounted with metal straps and equipped with a screw-on lid or cap. Gas Tank Must Be Brightly Painted. Drive shafts must be looped at front. Minimum of '/4 steel two (2) inches wide. Drive Shaft Must Be Painted White.
18. Any car that is jacked up to be worked under must be supported by jack stands.
19. Any person removing radiator cap and causing injury to others will be subject to disciplinary action.
20. No Electrical Fuel Pumps When Running Alcohol.
21.Neck Collars Are Recommended. All drives must understand flags. Failure to obey the Flagman will bring disqualification. The flagman's decision will be final during any event. Failure to see the flag will not be considered an excuse. Any argument concerning his decision may result in your disqualification for that race program.
FLAG EXPLANATION
GREEN FLAG : Start of Race
WHITE FLAG : One Lap to Finish
CHECKERED FLAG : End of Race
YELLOW FLAG : Slow to Packing pace. Single File. NO PASSING Restart will go back to the last completed lap. After the restart has been posted, two (2) laps will be made and then the race will be restarted.
RED FLAG : Stop Immediately Restart will go back to last completed lap. Car causing red flag must move to rear for restart, if able. Any repairs done to cars should get off of track, but do not go to the pit. Car causing another to spin out will go to the rear.
BLUE FLAG/YELLOW STRIP: Keep your position leads are about to pass (lap cars).
BLACK FLAG : May Be Given For Any One Condition or Rule Violation. Failure to obey black flag will result in your disqualification from racing that night.
PROTEST
1. Only car owners can protest a car and he must have car running that night.
2. Soliciting for contributions for a protest will NOT BE PERMITTED.
3. Written protest with $50.00 cash must be presented to track manager before the start of the feature race. Thirty-five ($35.00) dollars will be paid to the car owner, if legal, or returned to the protester, if the car is disqualified.
4. A protested car must be disassembled or made available by the car owner and his pit crew for inspection by track officials thirty (30) minutes after the last feature. If this is not done, all points accumulated up to that night and money for that night will be forfeited.
5. Any car found to be illegal or claimed and not sold will forfeit money and points for the night.
